Fluorescein Angiography

What Is Fluorescein Angiography?

Fluorescein Angiography is an eye testing technique used for examining the circulation of blood in the retina and choroid. This is done using a fluorescent dye and a specialized camera.

The Process:

Eye drops are given to dilate the pupil to allow for clear photos to be taken during the test. A fluorescein dye is then injected into a vein usually at the bend of your elbow. Then a series of photos are taken as the dye moves through the blood vessels in the back of your eye.

It is this test which allows us to determine whether there is proper blood flow in the blood vessels in the retina and choroid.  The test can also be used to diagnose other problems in the eye and even determine how certain treatments are working.
